I don’t know if any of my… loyal… followers ( heehee less than 50 of you…) noticed, but I put a few new buttons on the sidebar there.
May is a big time blogland sewing month!
First we have Kids Clothes Week Challenge. The idea here is that you devote an hour everyday to creating new clothing for your kids. I am going to participate this year with an effort I have not in the past. And this year will be harder, becasue I am not home all day every day anymore.
side note, how did I not get soooo much more done then? Oh right, the boys were really little then…
So my week looks like this:
Monday: Repairs. I need to add cuffs to Hawleys tap uniform, cause he out grew his pants of course… I am also planning on making Murphy some new pants, skinny kid…
tutorials I intend to use:
Dana at Made has so many great tutorials and devotes time to the boys every year. Her son Owen is around the same age and size as Murphy so it is even easier for me to use her ideas as a guideline!
flat front pants
flat front with pockets
at Lil Blue Boo they mostly focus on girlies. There are some GRRRREAT girlie things there! I have used her basic pattern for the twilight altered dresses for the little girls.
She has some great iron on transfer and screen printing guides and I was thinking of making the Murph even cooler:
I am not saying I will do all of these, but I fully intend to whip out 3-4 new pair of pants for Murphy and repair Hawley’s pants.
Tuesday: gifts for babies. Here I wanna make 2-3 layette gowns for some friends that are due in the summer. Even though both my boys were born in the hot hot summers, we still used layette gowns in the beginning. So I wanna do an altered 90 minute shirt idea. I’ve done this before and if you don’t remember you can find it here. A blog I have lost along the way used rock t-shirts for layette gowns, so I am gonna do that too, especially if I find a Metallica one. The daddy of this bean was way into Metallica when we were all kids! I will be giving them a Hawley Sack and Insert and I may make something else. I always shower friends having their first baby, because well, I can! HAHAHAHAHAH!!!! I may add some brand new size booties, and mitts, and maybe a swaddling wrap as well! Its only an hour… I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself…
bedroom makeover. The fine print on KCWC is an hour on anything for the kids handmade. My boys need new bed stuff. Hawley’s twin will get a new Duvet cover, and Murphy will get new sheets and a Duvet Cover. I also need to make a hanging stuffed animal hammock or something like that.
Thursday: bias tape tunic for both boys
Friday: Moccasins for Hawley, and Murphy and then the refashion basket needs a good clearing out.
Saturday and Sunday are also reserved for Refashions and prepping for Summer clothes.
On to the Sewing for me!
You may notice the other button says the Summer of NO PANTS. There are 4 weeks of Sewing and a flickr group. May23- June17th which is awesome. I have a lot of skirt tutorials I have been meaning to whip out, and I can’t wait! Here is the “short” list:
5 minute bias skirt
shirt dress 1
shirt dress 2
the socialite skirt
lavender love dress
another ruffly skirt
Paper bag top skirt
I might actually do all of these… we’ll see. It would definitely whittle down the stash! I also have a lot of paper patterns I have been meaning to work on and that may or may not happen. I might also include refashions that qualify in the no pants category.
So this weekend is devoted to cleaning and prep. If I can get everything cut out for kids clothes week, I will be in a really good space!
