I am a big Goodwill shopper. I have found some amazing things and its usually very fun for me to go treasure hunting. But, I am sad to say that one single employee turned my attitude and I am boycotting the goodwill for a while. Luckily, its yard sale season…
So, after any yard sale you are going to have a box or maybe many of things to donate. It was a late Saturday afternoon so I took them to the Goodwill. There was a lot of fabric scraps, some yardage, toys, housewares, etc. The guy looks all grumpy when he comes out, this isn’t unusual. I start loading things into his yellow bin when he sneers at me,
“fabric scraps and yardage.” I say.
a sound comes out of him that sounds very much like my children when they don’t want to do something,
“I’m sorry, is there something wrong?” I ask.
“well, we can’t sell this, it just goes in our garbage, I mean could you sell this?” He is practically hissing at me with this frustration and disdain.
“I just did, by the bag full for $1 at my yard sale!” I tell him, I am still not getting too defensive, but this guy is pissing me off.
“Well, why didn’t you sell it all?!” he demands.
by this time I am loading all my stuff back into my car. I am not going to deal with this. SO I ask about everything I chuck in.
“not if they are just little tiny things with parts floating around!”
back in it goes.
He looks at me,” do you need a receipt?” the question is sort of muttered at me.
“no. goodbye.” I say
I was so mad that I was going to have to go to the dump and pay to unload this stuff. There was still usable stuff. Although I understand that the goodwill probably gets loads of trash and dirty things, my things were not. I was so frustrated from a long day and low blood sugar and high caffiene already that this just tipped the scales. I pulled up at the dump and started pouring things in, before I realized it, there were some things that I might have liked to keep. The Max costume, some of Murphy’s baby stuff, some bits and pieces that really would have been nice for someone somewhere. But, they had ended up in the dump with my rage. So, Goodwill, I am sorry for you that one employee soured my taste, after all the disgruntled employees I have dealt with at your places of business. Goodbye for a while.
