Always with beauty in simplicity, texture and pattern.
Could I create this idea? I think so. Let’s try:
I used two sets of Jersey Sheets I got at Target on the clearance rack (hence the dark chocolate brown). This color is good for me because it hides all the grubby finger prints (I say that a lot… ) and dog hair that accumulate. It helps that my dogs and cats are all dark.
I started by taking the two flat sheets and cutting them into wide strips the long way. I got about 4 strips per sheet giving me 8 altogether. Then I used elastic thread, to give the edges a better gather. This also allows for give as it is stretched across us. I shirred the long sides of all 8 strips. ** tip: every so often I take 8 bobbins and do the hand winding of the elastic bobbin while watching a movie. Then I am all ready to go for a project without needing to stop and wind more…**
I joined all the strips and added a border. For the underside I used a flat flannel king sheet. I stitched them together with right sides facing leaving the bottom open. That way I can insert a duvet if I want. Right now it is an excellent coverlet, just as it is. I think it will be very useful in the summer when bedding is too much and I long for a sleeping porch.
