Cotton press cloths are a common tool used in sewing and garment
construction and are useful to have in your sewing room or ironing area.
The press cloth comes in handy when your closet contains clothing that
needs regular pressing. A press cloth will protect and extend the life
of clothing and other fabric items. Quality press cloths can be
purchased or it is simple to make your own out of common household
How did I make a pressing cloth? Well it was quite easy. I recycled an old flannel sheet, one that had been washed many times and would not bleed colors at high heat settings. You could use any cotton, and for some items I use jersey instead. I find this works REALLY well. I used two pieces of the flannel approximately 18″ x 24″ This gave me a large cloth. You can make it any size you would like though. I simple serged the two pieces together, rounding the corners as I went because I liked the way it looked. You could also straight stitch them together , but a zigzag would save you needing to do it inside out then flipping and top stitching… blah blah blah. it is for ironing after all.
I decided to start hanging my laminate scraps. this helps keep them flatter, and it looks purty.
