I feel like I am starting to catch up, starting too, and then I remember all the things I want to have done by now. All the housework, creative en devours and yard work still waiting on me…
Make your own CUSTOM sized leggings
why would you want to make your own leggings when they are generally so cheap? Well, I choose fabric that wasn’t so run of the mill.
To start I used a pair of leggings that fit me well to make a pattern, I did a piece for the back of the leg and the front of the leg. If I were you I would destroy an old well fitting pair to make a pattern, but I wanted to keep these chocolate brown leggings.
If you are going to tear up an old pair, be sure to take them apart at the inseam. You want a pattern piece that has the crotch on both sides, back and front like below:
My first pair from the sweater knit was toooooooo small, I didn’t count on the stretch. the sweater knit was not as stretchy as the brown pair I used as a template. I also discovered that I wanted the seamless outside leg and this is how you get it. By cutting one piece for each leg instead of two. Now, because I flubbed up the first pair and I serged the seams, I didn’t want to seam rip.
I have an uber tiny friend that the little pair will go to. That means I didn’t have quite enough fabric to make a second pair long enough for me, so I did a little inset. This is trickier than I thought it would be and I do not have very good instructions for this… sorry.
I took inspiration from these leggings:
ok, so after you cut your two pieces out, I would do the cuff hem if you are going to. You could leave them raw and they would be fine. Then with right sides together, seam the crotch to top, and the butt to top. Open them up so they are still right sides together, but look like pants now, so you can match up the crotch point and butt point and the legs to cuffs. Stitch this seam. Turn right side out, fold over the top by an inch or so, and stitch this down. I made a two small cuts at the front for the draw string. I used some stuff I had lying around as drawstring.
