It’s Halloween, I had been busy as all get out getting the costumes done, testing a bag pattern, sewing a quilt top, etc etc. I managed to toss in an embroidery, and a hand printing refashion!
So all of that leaves me tired, and the kitchen a disaster (because of course I needed pumpkin donuts fuel for all this sewing) and the fateful night rolls along. We are invited to some new friends’ house for a pre trick or treat shindig and the boys are SUPER excited. I get to town (30 min drive) and realize, oh snap… I forgot my camera.
yup. Had to instagram it. You get the idea, they were Harry Potter! Here are some details:
The capes are made from a larger cape that was given to me for refashioning (thank you Tasha!). They are just simple capes. I gathered the neck, stay stitched the edges and put ties at the neck. The boys didn’t like the flapping of a cape, so we put last minute arm holes in which I need to stay stitch to stop the fraying. The scarves are just polar fleece. But I had to get the two colors for Gryffindor and stripe them. So each section is sewn, but they were cozy and made the difference. Of course the favorite part was the wands. I used this method from Hideous, Dreadful, Stinky and it is simple, super effective and went over really well. We had extras and took them to the party with us. For the first 45 min all you could see was zooming little boys hollering,” Expelliarmus!“
The boys were made more obvious by having lightning bolts and glasses drawn on, and thus, easier to keep in one’s possession. The Gryffindor patches were printed onto sew on fabric paper and then cut and sewn. I have a couple extras, if you want them, let me know.
We had a great time, and I am hoping to get you some better pics from the other parents and Nana.
It was refreshing to meet new people, and talk of things other than politics. I met the owners of this beautiful winery. They brought grapes from their most recent harvest. I hope I can socialize with this group more!
That may be hard though, as I am a sewing hermit…
More to come, including a batty refashion and a flying pin up witch!
