When I stumbled upon Dixie DIY I knew that these were the shorts I wanted to make for my shorts on the line. They are casual, yet have some details that give you fun elements of personalization. The bias tape contrast trim and the buttons up the side make them easy to finish and customize. The pattern is very well laid out, easy to print and understand with clear directions and sizing. The design is simple yet flattering and has that easy chic thing I so adore, especially chasing around little helpers…
I had this awesome Echino in YELLOW in my stash, and I had just enough of it to make these beauties happen. They are unexpected and awesome in my opinion. I was out and about and had a few sewists say they liked them, and of course, as sewists do, we talked about the fabric and the pattern maker and they were pleasantly surprised that these were a pattern! And that I made them. Since they do not know me, I will take that as a complement to their pro finish appearance, not that I have trouble finishing garments well enough… 🙂
I decided to use a vintage blue and cream stripe bias tape from my stash to make that yellow really pop, and the itty bitty amount of blue with the birds. I also had, JUST enough of that to make these guys finish.
I helped out last year with these two pair of shorts and decided that this year, I would be a little more proactive. So I reached out to the lovely Dixie of Dixie DIY and asked if she would consider allowing me to do a giveaway for her movies in the park shorts, and she said YES! So leave me a comment (Dixie will be reading too!) and a contact email, and I will select a winner via random number in one week! That’s June 24th! GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED
