Hurray! It’s October! It’s Fall! the rain and chilly season is upon us. So let’s play with Fiber arts!
I am going to revive the #365makes project by launching into October with all things fiber.
Here’s the thing. With both crochet and knit, I have been “shown” how to start, many times. I never remember because I finish the project and never pick it up again. With crochet I have been renewing my knowledge more frequently as I needed that skill when it came to my plastics project with plarn. Then this summer I went primary in granny squares with a vintage style bag. I decided suddenly that my extended family was going to be receiving knit and crochet goodies out of glorious yarns. And I am hoping to learn how to get a sweater together by the end of this month. The reality is I might get a fancy hat done and some fingerless mitts… Until then, this months DIY’s will be knit, crochet, felting, and macrame related. And of course Halloween will play into our fun too.
To begin, I wanted to share some resources for beginner knitters:
Abby at Things for Boys has a 3 part series all about equipment, resources and getting started as a knitter:
Jenny has a great video about how to cast on at the Southern Institute:
Why would I want to start learning something new, cramping my fingers and generally being in a foul state over crap looking stitches? well, these ladies have greatly inspired me. I wanna make some beautiful sweaters. I am hoping to complete at least one by the end of the month. But I have to learn first…
