SO, about a year ago, I tested a diaper bag pattern for Sara Lawson. She was in the midst of writing her book, Big City Bags (available now). I decided to try it out in Laminate, cause, well that’s what I do. I ended up sending this beauty off to a friend who was due with her 3rd baby girl and she told me later that it was awesome and she loved it, etc etc.
- Choose from 12 new designer-style bags and purses–alternate colorways provide additional inspiration
- Make use of clearly illustrated, well-tested patterns for sewing attractive bags
- Add stylish design elements that make your bags stand out: piping, three-dimensional pockets, fabric pleats, and more
Sara has a unique style, and she loves Echino (which I can totally understand). I got to meet her in person and see these bags at Quilt Market last April. Her patterns are well written, and the directions account for all questions. Big Ciy Bags goes through all the basics you will need for constructing not only Sara’s patterns but your own bag as well!
like I said, I followed her pattern, but used laminate on the exterior and it went together in a snap. There is a top zipper to keep it all in, and so many pockets! pockets for bottles, pockets for wipes, pockets for all you need when toting about an asenal of cleaning and feeding supplies!
I know what its like to go through so many diaper bags looking for the right one. I am going to make this up in some of my new laminates for 2 baby boys that are due soon in our circle. I used Jute strapping, but standard bias tape is called for in the pattern. You can find laminate and bias trims at Casa Crafty.
Both of these babies are firsts, and so as new moms try to figure out what they will like in advance, I will start them off with a good super diaper bag for all the things they think they will need to carry around.because we all think that we need everything in the beginning…
Would you like to make your own? Or any of Sara’s other designs?
