I cringe, I turn red, its been this way for years (ugh!) It doesnt help that the lego table is an explosion of Chima parts right now. And the book case looks like it was in an earthquake. ahhhh kids.
I am not concerned with their room being super matchy matchy. Every time I ask them if they want me to paint over my Dr. Seuss mural they scream “NO! we Love it!” and yet there are lego posters, pirate curtains, space posters, and science mobiles. Halo obsessions everywhere, and Diary of a Whimpy Kid books stashed in all the nooks and crannies. For awhile, the room was arranged for long curtains, and these were made and hung straight (I swear!). They were for function not style. To insulate the room from cold and hot, to block the light as my kiddos get up WITH the sun in the summer. But, they are big boys now and they needed a new set of curtains.
These curtains are beloved for 2 reasons, they are planes on black, and they are bombers. Bombers are special in our family as we have a grandad POW from WWII that flew a bomber. The boys love to talk about him, even though he died before they were born. My hubs has a tattoo in memorium and the motif surrounds us.
I used two full yard size pieces of the planes fabric. Because of my fixtures, I only seamed the raaw edges, leaving the selvedges as I really like them. If you were making these in a more traditional method, you would either create a channel for a curtain rod or add evenly spaced button holes for hooks to go through.
