One of my more recent Sewing Trends post featured this pattern. I fell in love with the shape that I almost never wear. It is the same silhouette that continually draws me to Japanese pattern books as well. I think its my love of Jane Austen, empire waists, and that illusion of what could be underneath. And I really feel like I should be talking to Mr.Darcy over a chia smoothie…
I was trying to figure out what type of fabric I wanted to use for this, knowing I was going to need at least 3 yards as I hadn’t decided what length I wanted to make. I didn’t have anything in that quantity in my stash, so I stopped at JoAnns. I found this sateen broadcloth, and thought,”well we are already out of my comfort zone, let’s go all the way…”
But, I am really in love with it. I keep thinking that I want to wear things that are drastically different from day to day. Although I tend to wear jeans and pretty tops the most, I want to wear a giant baby doll dress with unusual sleeves one day, and then tight ass pleather pants the next. I want to wear granny boot clogs, and then spiky heels. When I really look deep, this is something that I have always done. That desire to dress as I feel inside has been dormant for a while. Most days with the babies it was just what was clean. But myself has been resurfacing, and along with my cynicism and attitude, is beginning to show itself again.
With that in mind, I intend to wear this dress a lot (when it warms up!). I actually like the floral. Its not super intense, and it has the opportunity to be very light, and also kinda formal.
The pattern itself is really well written. Easy to understand and with the unusual sleeve, you get an added structural interest. Pattern Fantastique is off to a great start. It prints perfect and lines up without overages or any off lines. That can sometimes be a problem with PDF patterns.
I am really excited to make these short trousers. I have a feeling they will be a spring/ early summer staple. The Aeolian Tee is one of those perfect cotton tops, boxy and easy. Right there in my favorites with the scout tee I am sure.
If you are looking for a quick, simple, and standout spring frock, I suggest you look towards Pattern Fantastique.
This pattern was given to me by the designer. It was not expressed that I do a review, but I felt that I should. . Love it.
