Yes, it was THAT weekend. The weekend of BBQ+Cul de Sac fireworks+cute kids in sprinklers. We have a habit of going to see old friends in Seattle for the 4th. In the past it has been our 1 available time to drive across the states to get there. Now, we are only a few hours away and so, it didn’t require the same level of planning. This is also the first real family trip where I didnt have to cover farm care. We took the dog and he did great.
It was a strange weekend in that every time we tried to do something we had not done before it literally got grounded. For example, my lifelong friend is a pilot. He is even a flight instructor! He was going to take me and the boys up, but then the runway got closed due to an accident. All humans were ok, the plane is in a sad way.
They learned all about pre-flight equipment checking! Then we went for Burgers and made a slip and slide.
Oh how we grow up.
The kids loved the slip and slide. We had maybe an hour of clear sky and no rain and 60 degrees, so they played hard for those few minutes.
The next day we were planning on a crabbing adventure. The tides were against us though. We enjoyed the company of friends as close as family. It was cold-ish and rainy on and off, so the kids explored while we waited for food to slow cook. Murphy nearly couldn’t wait and tried to eat a slug (snicker, after the Doritos of course).
It’s a good thing I love these guys, because this shirt is somewhere between terrible and Awesome and dizzying.
All in all it was a glorious weekend ending with neighborhood fireworks.
