I’ve been making bras for a span of time now. With each one, I feel like I get better with the materials, I get better with directions. I can make a Watson in an hour, and it is a good one. I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from Madalynne, I wish I lived closer and could learn from her directly. Not only about construction. But also about her teaching methods, her styling and her innate ability to make everything romantic looking. Yeah, it’s probably a sewers crush.
The reality is I need to save my pennies, expense the trip and get on it. In the meantime, I am getting pretty excited about how much better I am getting at my own construction. I’ve made a lot for myself. I’m at the point where my original messy wearable muslins are being set aside and my lingerie drawer (ha!) is looking lacy and pretty.
Instead of showing you each set as I make them, I am going to do a biweekly check-in with all the underthings.
my edited way of showing you this set on…
I’ve fallen in love with the fit of the Montgomery Brief by Orange Lingerie, so I dig through my cotton jersey scraps and make a pair everyday I am in the studio. It’s like a warm up. It’s a small project that sets my head in “delicates” space. I am much more confident than I used to be approaching lace, lined and unlined. Sewing with mesh? Yeah, I can pull that off. ( toot toot!)
This Marlborough and Montgomery combo makes me especially proud though. I had just enough elastic to make them match. I had just enough materials to work with. AND ITS PRETTY! It is also extremely well fitting. Don’t mind my awkward poses. I’m not really interested in showing you me as a lingerie model, but I feel like you need to see the way they fit.
With the success I have had, I am trying out new things. I’m trying out some materials that are even more delicate, even more resistant to feed dogs. I’m learning to add structure to this delicacy. I am hoping to design my own perfect one. But, I may settle for just creating custom lingerie. How did I go from bags out of laminate and leather to mesh bras? oh the world of creation…
