This project turned out to be bigger than I anticipated. I knew I was getting into something massive, but, even then, it still proved to be huge in the end. I learned how to repair a seized up sewing machine motor. I learned that my math requires closer attention. I’ve learned that I would like to quilt as I go next time…
I am really glad I did it, and I really like paper piecing now. I’m pretty excited to eventually make one of the Jungle Abstractions for my own space.
I opted for the straight across quilting. I don’t have a long arm, and I didn’t want to detract from the geometric intensity of the lion.
Part of the issue was the size. The pattern for the lion is a 60″ x 60″ square. That was fine. However, I was commissioned to make this a king size. That meant adding a 30″ border all the around. This increased it to an unmanageable size, and yet, I managed…
Due to it’s size it was hard to get any pictures of it off of the bed. I’m still pretty impressed with myself. Now that I’ve done this, I know what I will due differently next time to make it go more smoothly. I say that for myself, and a project I would like to make, but also because I may make a few more of these for others.
To recap: This is the Lion from Violet Craft’s Jungle Abstractions. Finished November 19th, 2016.
Have you ever Paper pieced? How did I do, What do you think??
