It happens to all of us in some way. The lack of sunlight and longer nights makes everyone a little more interested in hibernating than motivating. When my family lived in Central Oregon this didn’t seem as bad. It was very cold, and often snowy, but the sun was out! We would have 0* Fahrenheit days, with amazingly blue and clear skies. I missed the rain, the moderate temperatures, and the growth of what we called the “valley” AKA Portland, OR.
Now we are back, we have been in Hillsboro (a Portland suburb) for a year and this is our second winter. It may be from a normalizing of schedules, or from just being really busy but I am having some serious Seasonal Affective Disorder. I just feel lackluster and unmotivated everyday! I push through and move forward but I’ve decided to take things in my own hands to try to make it better.
First up- SAD lighting
My hubs doesn’t like to call it my sad lamp. it is really an anti-sad lamp. I am trying to decide which one to get while I try out a friends to make sure it is what I need. If you already know you want one, here are a few of my favorite looking lamps:
But- what is light therapy isn’t enough and you don’t want to go down the pharmaceutical path just yet? How about essential oils? Sometimes a simple scent can be the solution to what ails you. one of the simplest ways to use essential oils is to diffuse them. A few drops in a room diffuser and you may notice that your grumpy is starting to turn around a little. The next step is to make a roller ball applicator with a blend in a carrier oil or a small room spray. I have been making my own lip balm and adding the DoTerra motivate blend for a little extra punch.
That all sounds great, but how to start?
Most essential oil starter kits come with everything you need. The best option for getting off the ground is the aromatouch kit from DoTerra (email me for more details at firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you are in the Hillsboro area, I will be hosting a “make and take” class for a small group at the Casa Crafty studio on Thursday January 12, at 6pm. This is an intro to essentail oils class where we will go over the beginning of what you need and where to get started! Hope to see you there.
