I have had Jude on my table for a few months now. I couldn’t decide what kind of fabric to sew it from however. I had some gorgeous silk, I had an eyelet cotton, I had a very light weight linen. The reality confronted me though of whether or not I would ever wear this garment if it was made from a fabric I would need to wear another garment over in order to stay warm. But then I found this lovely french terry at Organic Cotton Plus.
Full disclosure, Organic Cotton Plus contacted me and sent me this yardage for a review. I am really glad they did! It is hard to find Organic Cotton knits in a wide variety of colors, thickness and dimension. However, Organic Cotton Plus has you covered! This French Terry was lightweight, springy and yet had weight to it. It is perfect for this Jude. Just enough thickness to keep it to one layer if wanted, but also you could layer with great success. plus the shipping time was fabulous (and its free over $50!)
So let’s talk about Jude- first, I edited a few things to make it more feasible for a knit: I added cuffs, a neckband and a waistband. I wanted it to have a slightly blouse like feel so the waistband is cinched a little for effect. I also made the arms a little longer. I think they should be longer still but I do like them like this.
One of the things I immediately loved about Jude was the symmetry. And Pockets. I love Pockets. So I mashed the dress and top version and added the pockets! And my surprise was how well the jersey held up. Sometimes when you add pockets, a fabric just drags. It isn’t meant for real pockets. This French Terry was perfect!
Between the two, I have a new favorite in my closet that I will wear all the time. I am headed off to Organic Cotton Plus to order some more yummy knits, you should too! Enter the code “casacraftyOCP” for 10% off your purchase!
